Silent Disco Installation at SCI Arc

Arts

This custom designed, temporary environment is composed of plywood, paint, and mirrors.  The installation completely transforms an architectural school’s 20 foot tall, 1200 sf main gallery by employing both the technologies of superficial deception inspired by WWI Razzle Dazzle camouflage and the materiality of reflective embedded mirror ball fragments to create a hybrid of military and disco architectures of surface.  The plywood panels advance and recede within the space, obscuring the parameters of the installation and offer multiple spatial possibilities based on the visual perception of form. This silent disco is a stealthy architecture, imbued with disinformation of literal form.
